ABE #8: Self Representation Remix

Art Block Execution #8 : Self Representation Remix

One small secret that’s known between artists is that a piece of us shows in our art all the time. Be it a physical trait, personality in a character, a  quirk, or the way they handle situations….an artists blooms and blossoms in their work.

Sometimes more obvious than most.

For this ABE, we’d like for you to draw* yourself. We know we have some Alter Egos we may be more comfortable drawing, but we’d like for you to pull up pictures [a good time to try out our fourth ABE if you don’t have any ] or grab a mirror, and draw you…

AT LEAST Three times.

The first drawing can be your usual style.. but the other two styles should be different. It can mimmick your favorite artists, or maybe you want to try something less/more detailed…

You may want to try a different medium , or different positions..

You may want to just to take this chance to improve your current style. But the challenge  is to step out of the norm.

* If you do not draw [sculpt, write , sing , etc ] then practice in other styles that isnt yours. BE CREATIVE.

Difficulty: 4/5 . if you’re so used to drawing in one way/ using one medium, this will be a little tricky. But don’t be scared! Practice!

How does this kill art block? : It pushes you out the box.

ABE #7: Interpretive Jams

Art Block Execution #7: Interpretive Jams

Music inspires us. A LOT. It inspires us as writers, illustrators, and musicians. Sometimes it helps motivate us with what we’re already doing. Sometimes it gives us new ideas…

And sometimes, we just want to re-create the song. It happens to all of us. We want to cover it, but the way we would have done it, in our style.
We want to write a story exactly about this song.
We MUST illustrate it, or make a comic out of the lyrics.

So that’s what we’ll be doing this week.

Pick a song, one that inspires you, and recreate it however you like. You do not need to reference the music or lyrics exactly, and it may be as divergent from the original as you like, so long as, once you tell the audience what song it is, they can nod and say “Yeah, I can see that.”

Difficulty: 2/5 The hardest part should be picking a song.

How does it kill art block? : Taking time to work on something that inspires you is a great way to get the juices flowing again.
